Empathy is when we meet someone at where they are emotionally and feel what they feel without trying to ‘fix’ their perception of the experience; or feelings about it.
It is holding a safe space and metaphorically sitting with them in that space until they feel seen, heard, and listened to. We don’t have to say or act on anything, just be.
The shared emotional experience prompts someone to move closer to us.
